Not all that much happening in NJ. Whole lotta rain but not much wind or concern. My greatest concern is my pool flooding even though I took the water level down about 10 inches. Even if she floods, not all that much concern.

Like someone said, NYC does not need Irene to create a disaster. They can do that all by themselves by shutting down public transportation.

It turned out a lot to do about very little, but the shutting down of the transportation system also shut down the airports. Our kids were due to fly back in last night from the west coast, but they couldn't. Even though I could have easily picked them up by car, all airports closed yesterday afternoon.

Now they had to fly from Jackson, WY, to Salt Lake City, UT, to Atlanta, GA. Stay the night there, fly this morning to Pittsburgh, PA, and are now driving 400 miles to NYC.

Delta was as unhelpful as you can imagine, and could not be bothered. Waiting times on the phone exceeded 90 minutes. The earliest they could get them back into New York was Wednesday morning. And that was for first class tickets. Imagine if they were flying coach.

Although it caused them a lot of fuss, better save than sorry. Especially when it comes to kids.

I said basically the same on my Facebook page and did so back on Thurs that it was all media hype to get ratings up and keep you glued to the TV and of course bolster some political careers as well.

            Complete over reaction. Again

In the mean time, I take it back. Irene apparently did unbelievable damage in the Catskill Mountains. Our place is unreachable, no electricity, no phone, all bridges are out in the area. This evening at least cell phone contact is restored, and I talked to Tom. He said that thousands of trees are down, and the Bushkill river is way out of it's banks.

(His 11 cars are all OK, but the water came very close. He sounded pretty shaken up. We don't know about my cars)

My ski place in Vermont also got hammered. I think most of the preparations were for NYC and NJ and NY beach towns vs Vermont and Catskills that got hit hard. Need to also check on my folks who are in the Catskills

Hope all is well, guys. If you need flood relief, come to California! All we have is sunshine right now. (Our turn later, no doubt.)

Here in NJ I had no power for 36 hours, and most of my neighbours had flooded basements; lots of trees down. Spyker safe up on lift - would have had to be a very deep flood for it to get touched!!

Still no electricity upstate, but with a few detours I could reach it. Biggest problem is the I87 New York Thruway, that is still closed over a 15 mile stretch northbound, and a 30 mile stretch southbound. There were no signs, until it was too late, and you got caught.

Our generator did not work, but Tom fixed that. The cars are OK, but the floor of the garage is full of silt.

Half our property has been turned in a riverbed.....
