Are all North-Easterners OK? We have survived in Manhattan. Still have electricity and Internet. The water came close, but did not reach our building.

We are within walking distance from the office, but will probably the only ones at work today.

Haven't talked to Tom yet, but it looks like its a lot better than after Irene.

    Please report on your condition.

All taxi drivers went home yesterday afternoon, and new shifts cannot get to Manhattan. Combined with a closed public transport system, closed bridges and tunnels, there is no way to move around.

Hey guys- it was a real messy storm on Long Island.. I mean bad,, latest stats were that 85% of the Island was without power.. I lost power at 6pm monday and just got power back a few hours ago.. I'm on the north shore but I hear that the south shore of LI has been re-designed by mama-nature,,, best to all.. Kurt

Tom is fine. High winds, no electric until last night, many trees over the road, but no water.

No water over the road sounds good.

                          Kurt,

Tom is in the Catskill Mountains. Irene was devastating upstate NY. All the water that falls on the mountains, has to work its way out through the valley. There are still parts that are not cleaned up, and the defense lines agains the water are still weak. So he was worried, but Sandy was just wind, and not much water upstate NY. Trees fell over, power was interrupted. But within two days everything was back to normal. That is a whole lot better than in the NY metropolitan area.

Worked 12 hours on Saturday. Dropped off my wife at JFK at 6AM on Sunday for her monthly trip to London. Drove up to the Catskills to check out our place after sandy. Long lines at the gas stations along the way. Got in a drive in the #207, and went back to NYC. Gassed up upstate, and then hyper-miled back to Manhattan. The gas stations there are still very limited.

Still no power here in NJ. Cooking by camping stove and a small generator for the well pump. Gas is rationed, but #138 is full, and I havent needed to siphon any off yet! Internet is by oh so slow 3G - a lot of cell towers must be out of action too. My whole house generator, geothermal and solar systems were ordered and scheduled, Sandy was a bit early for me.
