Ford GT crashes

At the Spyker dinner, we discussed the crash-proneness of the Ford GT. Kurt tools us that more than 1000 of the 4000 GT's produced have been in crashes. That is an incredible percentage. I tried to confirm this number, and the assertions are all over the place. Even up to 1400 crashes. That does not mean that they are all total loss, but stil

Does anybody have some more insight in this?

With only three total loss Spyker's (one race car), we are doing pretty good.....

... the Spyker is exciting, then becomes scary, before it becomes dangerous. Not sure about the Ford GT, did never drive one...
