  • #001 - C8 Spyder

This is my first Spyker sighting this was in September 2002! This must be car #001 if I am right (and according to AX list). I am sitting behind the wheel in the last picture. I drove it a few meter backwards for this picture!

You can see that it is #001 if you look at some details. The fuel fillercap is still on the bonnet! And the logo on the nose says Spyker, but now the propellor is there and the word Spyker is in the mesh grille. And at the rear there is a chrome tube dat disappeared on later models.

Lots of small differences in the interior also. There is nothing on the middle console, the pedal box is different, no interior mirror, no horn on the steering wheel, the idiot lights are less and smaller and so on.

Amazing that they choose to use GREEN leather on their FIRST car.

Hmm not really sure that this is #001 because Laviolette GT2R gave me the following information:

001 Spyker C8 Spyder Black / Black Used for testing with the International Press (foto shot in May 2001)

The car is this pictures may be #004?

004 Spyker C8 Spyder Black / Green (foto shot on 14 aug. 2003)

But as far as I can see the bodycolour of this car is dark green?

From another forum at autoweek, i gathered some interesting information:

                From a Spyker prospectus:

                Production history and purpose

...In 2001, two cars have been produced, one Spyker C8 Double12 R and one Spyker C8 Laviolette...

...In 2002, Spyker produced three cars. One Spyker C8 Spyder was sold to a customer, one Spyker C8 Double12 S was used as a development car, and one Spyker C8 Double12 R was used for races at Le Mans in 2002...

...In 2003, Spyker has taken sixteen cars into production, of which twelve were finished before the year end. Six finished Spyker C8 Spyders were committed as development cars to enhance the certification program for the U.S. Three Spyker C8 Spyders were sold to customers. One finished Spyker C8 Double12 R (used in 2003 for Le Mans racing) and one Spyker C8 Spyder are used as demonstrator models. At the end of the year 2003 Spyker had one Spyker C8 Spyder ready for delivery. Three Spyker C8 Spyders and one Spyker C8 Double12 S were finished for more than 75 per cent...

If you watch the attachment you can see that in 2000, there was only one car build. That would be the first C8 Spyder, it is listed as development car. The next C8 Spyder was build in 2002. So there was only one C8 Spyder in 2000 and 2001. Since it was a development car we can assume that in a time span of two years it changed a lot.

The photograph AX lover is referring to is a photo from a brochure [feb. 2004]and was taken in 2001 so this car has to be #001 because there was no other C8 Spyder at that time! On this photo the car looks black / black (see attachment). But it's hard to tell from a photo.

Let's take a look at the fotographs posted by pterps. The photographs are taken in 2002. So it can be #001 or the second C8 Spyder that was build. Since that was the fourth (in total) car build by Spyker that would be #004. On the windscreen of the Spyder where pterps is sitting in (i'm jealous!) you can see a Le Mans sticker. So the car probably has been to the 24 hours of Le Mans. Since it seems more likely to go to Le Mans with a factory car instead of the first car you sold to a customer i think it is save to assume that it is indeed #001. On the photos this one looks green / green.

But as i said, it is sometimes hard to tell from a photo and since #001 was a development car we can assume that in a time span of two years it changed a lot.

I have attached some photo's of #001 from the brochure and the CD that comes with it. (It is basically the same photo only in the brochure it explicitely says that the car on the photo is #001)

image_461.jpg warning: slightly off topic! #004

                  I must be blind...

#004 is blue!!! And not black as i told AX lover.

Hard to tell the interior color though.

#004 looks to have a green/gray interior (or maybe dark blue )

Can you maybe also upload the pictures of the car that was on display at Birmingham?

                      image_470.jpgimage_471.jpgimage_472.jpgimage_474.jpgimage_475.jpg More #001 pictures

The first two are from an early Spyker brochure. The interior looks a lot like the interior of the one that pterps made photo's of. The exterior color is different though. The fifth one is a photo taken at the Birmingham auto show in 2000. The third one is taken from an auto show in 2001. This one looks pretty similar to the photo of the Birmingham show in 2000, but is different, check the wheels for instance. The fourth one is taken at the 2001 Concours Pebble Beach. Now the exterior color is black just like the photo i posted earlier.

All of these photographs should be #001 since this was the only C8 Spyder in existence in 2000 and 2001, according to figures provided by Spykercars (see earlier post).

So it changed quite a lot!

But hey, it's a development car, if it stayed the same in two years, something would be very wrong!!
