Thu 20 Aug 2009 SNORAS SPYKER SQUADRON 1000 KM OF THE NURBURGRING PREVIEW

Just three weeks after the 1000 km of the Algarve the SNORAS Spyker Squadron is back in action this weekend. The fourth round of the 2009 Le Mans Series takes the team to the German Eifel region for the 1000 km of the Nurburgring

Despite a 10-place grid penalty for changing an engine in Portugal the team is determined to keep up the competitive swing as experienced at Le Mans and Portimo and is hoping for at least a repeat of last years result when the number 85 Spyker Squadron C8 Laviolette GT2R finished fifth in the penultimate round of the season. The teams regular drivers, Tom Coronel and Jarek Janis, will be behind the wheel again in Germany.

Peter van Erp, Managing Director Spyker Squadron: "We will be going for it again at the Nurburgring. Portimo was a new track for us, the Nurburgring is a rather familiar place. Despite the grid penalty we were given I am really positive ahead of this weekend and I think we should be able to be on the pace again. Jarek is already familiar with the circuit from his DTM time and has proven he is quick around the track when he raced for us back in 2007".

Thirteen GT2 cars will take part in the race this weekend. The 1000 km or six-hour race will start this Sunday at 12:30 CET. The weather forecast for the weekend includes rain on Friday and sunshine on Saturday and Sunday.

Spyker did very well in the first two practive sessions!

        Session 1
        1 JMW Motorsport (Ferrari F430 GT) 1:59.126
        2 Hankook Team Farnbacher (F430 GT) 1:59.936
        3 Team Felbermayr Proton (Porsche 997 GT3 RSR) 2:00.164
        4 Snoras Spyker (Spyker C8 Laviolette) 2:00.194
        5 Team Modena (Ferrari F430 GT) 2:00.426

        Session 2
        1 Team Felbermayr Proton (Porsche 997 GT3 RSR) 1:58.290
2 JMW Motorsport BELL (Ferrari F430 GT) 1:58.870
        3 Imsa Matmut (Porsche 997 GT3 RSR) 1:59.120
        4 Snoras Spyker (Spyker C8 Laviolette) 1:59.428
        5 Team Modena (Ferrari F430 GT) 1:59.484

It looks like the Spyker (finally) has the same speed as the Ferrari's & Porsche's, even on a quick track such as the Nurburgring.

Let's hope that nothinh breaks and the get a nice result on Sunday. Qualifying tomorrow won't so important because they will get a 10-place grid penalty for changing an engine in Portugal.

I'll say! They must be averaging 470 mph!

Oh... It's on the new track.

I hope Jarek will be able to find some extra speed...

First session: 2:00.194 (9 laps) for Tom Coronel against 2:02.680 (14 laps) for Jarek Janis
Second session: 1:59.428 (10 laps) for Tom Coronel against 2:02.494 (14 laps) for Jarek Janis

But Jarek still faster then many other second or third drivers .

                  3rd Free Practice

Another good session for the Snoras Spyker Squadron!

Jarek starting this session, was steadily improving his laptimes. He was very consistent which is really important for the race. He managed laptimes between 2:00 and 2:01 for many laps before setting his fastest laptime of 2:00.651. That is an improvement on yesterdays sessions of 1.8 seconds, so well done Jarek !

Then it was Tom's turn at the wheel of the Laviolette GT2R. He was once more flying out there, again claiming fourth in class. Just as Jarek, Tom was also very consistent, able to drive a nice string of 1:59 laps. Rounding up with an excellent fastest laptime of 1:58.553, 0.9 seconds faster then yesterday.
