SNORAS Spyker Squadron pre-Le Mans test

After a well deserved fourth place at Spa-Francorchamps the team immediately continues to work on their Le Mans 24 Hours preparations. With only three weeks to go before the most gruelling race starts the team grabs the opportunity to test the Spyker C8 Laviolette GT2R once more at Monza, Italy.

Earlier this year the Automobile Club de l'Ouest decided to cancel the official Le Mans test day to cut costs for the teams. This means that the teams have a long six hour test-session on the Wednesday preceding the race and the regular qualifying session on Thursday. Due to a collision and the weather conditions the Dutch team also missed a lot of valuable track time at Spa two weeks ago and decided to go to Monza for further testing. With its long straights Monza is an ideal track to simulate the Le Mans straight top speeds.

The team will not test new components in Italy but will fully focus on testing combinations of various aerodynamic setting in conjunction with their Michelin factory tires. This will hopefully result in a better insight of the best possible setup for the 24 Hour race in June.

Peter van Erp, Managing Director Spyker Squadron: "We have decided to go to Monza as once can never be sure how much time can be spent testing at Le Mans before qualifying and the race. It will take some time before the track has the right grip levels and just imagine how effective a free practice will be if it starts raining or code red is given on the lengthy (13.6 km long) track. Jeroen Bleekemolen will join us in Italy to get some extra mileage in the car. We also would like to see Jarek Janis in the car before we go to Le Mans".

The one day test is scheduled for Monday the 25th. The truck with the car will leave Zeewolde tonight and will return back in Holland on Tuesday.

After the test the team will travel South to France for the 24 Hours of Le Mans mid-June. For more Spyker Squadron updates do not forget to drop by our VIMEO and TWITTER pages which we will be updating regularly.

Here's a short impression about the Monza test:

Spyker Squadron reported a trouble free test session which gave the team a lot of confidence for Le Mans. Jeroen Bleekemolen and Jarek Janis were driving the Spyker C8 Laviolette GT2R and both drivers were on the pace. All in all the test was usefull for finding the best possible setup for the 24 Hour race and the team was happy with the progress made and the weather conditions at the test (air temperature up to 36°C and track temperature heading towards 60°C).

things didn't turned out so good for Verstappen himself: crashed into the tires with 300 km/h, luckily he only had a sore neck

But he did write off the car... And that is a big problem for the team, because they don't have so many tubs and spare parts. Let's hope they are able to repare the car before Le Mans!

Quote from Jeroen Bleekemolen who was driving the Spyker with Jarek janis at Monza recently:

                  Translation:

"I went straight from Monaco to Monza where I tested for Spyker on monday. Because we wanted to test for Le Mans we drove the circuit without the first chicane. I did a lot of laps in the car and it went really well. The car has improved since I drove it. Without the chicane you reach a very high speed when you enter the first corner: the Curva Grande. In the Spyker, I could just take it flat out at 262 km/h. The boys from Aston Martin, who were also there reached 300+ km/h. Very exciting and I am really anxious to know how we will do at Le Mans!"
