  • Euro v Dollar

    Does anybody have any predictions?

With Fannie and Freddie shaking on their foundation, the downward pressure on the Dollar is increasing.

I hear reports that the Dollar will climb out of the gutter soon, but I just don't see it.

I was just reading that Corvette is exporting some models to Europe.

The one that caught my eye is the Z06 427 Limited Edition. There will be only 427 imported (why?) and it will go for a whopping €151,900 in the Netherlands (including taxes).

That is $241,500. Roughly three times as much as the US price

Even when you deduct the ridiculous Dutch taxes (40%?) the Z06 sells for double the amount in the US. I think GM is trying to offset their multi-billion losses with just 427 cars

Last year BPM was 45% and that was before the CO2 emission tax. And VAT is 19% (or is it 20% now?)

                  2009 Corvette Z06: $72,000
                  With all options: $85,000
After negotiation with dealer: $81,000 including delivery excluding taxes.

                  Now add the Dutch taxes......

                    First 10% Importduty (A) EU over listprice USA+Transport+Insurance (B). 1,1 * B = C
                    Than 19% BTW (D) over C.
                    Than 42.3 BP over C.
                    Than about € 22,000,-- Co2 Tax.

                      That makes it €120K.

€32K in excess profit for the importer

With the spreadsheet from SpykerOwner the total comes out to €98.3K (including the 10% import tax)

That makes the excess profit €53K, more than one third of the purchase price

Could you find the CO2 emissions of the 427? I searched the internet but couldn't find it. And you need that in order to calculate the 'slurptax'.

So, I did not do this right. Now I know that the ZO6 is Label G at 350g/km.

I cannot find "fijnstof", but I don't think I need that?

I also found the actual Limited Series car, a 2008 model. Including all options and negotiation deductable the car comes to $83,000 excluding taxes. I allowed $3000 for transport and added the 10% import tax to the base price.

The total then comes to €109,000. Still €43,000 shy of the listed price.

                            Thanks for the help Hans.

"fijnstof" is only for diesel engined cars. And I believe the first Corvette that runs on diesel still have to be build
