    ... why is it that Germany's roads appear (2x) safer than the ones in the USA? Death rates are 4.7 and 11.4 per 100,000 in Germany and USA, respectively. See statistics here. Should the US introduce "no speed limits"? :lol:

    Sadly, it cannot be the (lack of) speed limits, because Holland's rate is lower than Germany's. So, it must be something like the miles traveled per person is wildly different in different size countries.

    It would be interesting to see the death per 100,000 miles traveled also.

      ... yes, I fully agree. Is there any data on miles per person per year? I am sure USA and Europe would differ there, and that might explain it!

        Here's some data from the US.

        Interesting article confirming that annual mileage is a factor here. So was gender, age and time of the day.
