  • Spyker C8 Double 12 thread

Within a few months the current long wheel base model, the Spyker C8 Double 12, will be replaced by the new long wheel base model, the Spyker C8 Aileron. With the Aileron taking her place in the spotlights pretty soon, Bucciali and I found this was the right moment to pay attention once more to the Double 12, therefore creating this Spyker C8 Double 12 thread.

We think a total of at least 15 Double 12’s have been build. Fourteen of which we know the VIN number, these are:
    #008 - C8 Double 12S - Blue-Grey / Grey
    #014 - C8 Double 12S - Jet Black / Ruby Red
    #034 - C8 Double 12S - Jet Black / Vanilla with Chocolate
    #040 - C8 Double 12SC - Champion Silver / Tropicana Orange
    #056 - C8 Double 12S - Champion Silver / Ruby Red
    #059 - C8 Double 12SC - Jet Black / Ruby Red
    #066 - C8 Double 12S Spyder - Ferrari Pozzi Blue / Ferrari Cuio
    #068 - C8 Double 12S - Gunmetal / Magnolia
    #069 - C8 Double 12S - Aubergine / Cognac
    #101 - C8 Double 12S - Jet Black / Magnolia - RHD
    #126 - C8 Double 12s - White with Blue / White with Blue
    #129 - C8 Double 12S - Titanium Metallic / Magnolia
    #200 - C8 Double 12S - Azure Blue / Purple
    #208 - C8 Double 12S - Black with Gold / Black with Magnolia

That leaves one Double 12 with an unknown VIN number:
    #??? - C8 Double 12S - White / Lipstick Red

In the following post we will discuss - very briefly - all the different Double 12’s, to give you an overview.

If you have information or photographs about the C8 Double 12 in general or a specific Double 12 but you don’t know which one it is please feel free to post it in this thread.

If you have information or photographs about a specific C8 Double 12 and you do know which Double 12 it is, than it’s better to post in the thread of that particular Double 12, that way we can keep all information of that particular Double 12 together.

Disclaimer: Although Bucciali and I have tried very hard to be as thorough as possible, it is perfectly possible that our findings are not right!

If you have information that proves us wrong, please don’t hesitate to post it, if you disagree: Feel welcome to post also.

We hope you will enjoy this thread as much as we enjoyed making it!

The main purpose of the C8 Double 12S was to homologate its racing brother, the C8 Double 12R, so that it could race without additional penalties and therefore be more competitive.

In order to fully homologate the Double 12R, it was needed that at least 25 Spyker Double 12S were build. This never materialized so the Double 12R was never free of penalties and eventually it was replaced by the Spyker C8 Spyder GT2R.

The C8 Double 12S resembles the 12R but is of course more comfortable. Although this might be true for later Spyker Double 12’s this is only slightly the case for #008, which was really more a prototype than a real streetcar. It has no airconditioningsystem, the rollbar is different: One cross section in stead of the later double hoops behind the seats, and it even has the B.M.W. – based race engine which is very loud!

This Double 12 is now retired and found a loving owner who keeps it in his office…

    XL9CA14AX4Z363014

This was the first real Double 12 for street use. It does not have the B.M.W. – based race engine but it uses the same Audi engine as the Spyker C8 Spyders and Laviolettes.

This Double 12S still uses the air intake on the roof to get air to the airbox and into the engine.

It is registered in the Netherlands, which must have cost a fortune on taxes.

    #034 – Spyker C8 Double 12S

This Double 12 has a bi-color interior. Because of the Chocolate and Vanilla combination it is often referred to as the Duo-Penotti Spyker…

It has different colored tail lights, the indicator lights are white instead of amber. This Double 12 also uses the roof airintake in combination with an airbox to feed air to the engine.
The last three digits of the VIN could initially be found on the handle of the glovecompartment. At some point however, this Double 12 received the chassis of Double 12R #006 and was restamped #006. After that a normal handle, without VIN was fitted to the glovecompartment.

This Double 12 found a Russian owner.

    link to the #034 thread

    #040 – Spyker C8 Double 12SC

This Double 12 was initially build as a Double 12 Spyder, but later converted into a Double 12SC.

This special roof, although hardtop is probably a better word, locks on the A-pillars and can most likely be removed to use this Double 12 as a Spyder. The rearwindow is different as well: There are no ventilationslots in it. And that’s not all: This is, the only Double 12 that does not have the roof airintake. The engine breaths through the side airintake(s).

Another striking feature is that it’s engine is Super Charged.

This Double 12 had China as a destination, it went to Spyker of Beijing, the official Spyker dealer of China. This Double 12 has been given a new paintjob and is now white.

    link to the #040 thread

    #056 – Spyker C8 Double 12S

This Double 12 was initially build as a Spyker C12 Spyder, but later converted into a Double 12S.

As far as the roof is concerned: The construction of the roof is similar to that used on the Double 12SC with VIN #040, which was also originally a Spyder which was later converted into a Laviolette.

The roof itself however, is different. This is one of only two Double 12’s that have a roof without the glasspanels.

Although it does have the roof airintake, it’s not connected to the engine. The air to the engine will come from the side airintake(s). This construction was maintained for all future Double 12’s.

An automatic gearbox was fitted. The bodywork does not have the visible rivets of its predecessors, at that time a unique feature of this Double 12.

This Double 12 is believed to have found an owner in China.

    link to the #056 thread

    XL9BA22G56Z363059 – Spyker C8 Double 12SC

There is very little known about this Double 12. It was initially fitted with a Super Charger, giving it 525 Horse Power.

This Double 12 is owned by a Russian.

    link to the #059 thread

    #066 – Spyker C8 Double 12 Spyder

This particular Double 12 is the only true Spyder in existence. It was, unlike the Double 12’s with VIN #040 and #056, not fitted with a hardtop. It has the bodywork without the visible rivets and the turned aluminium dashboard.

This unique Spyder was fitted with sidemarkers, this was not common at that time, for instance the later build Double 12S with VIN #069, does not have these. This might indicate that it went to the U.S.A.

Edit: This one was fitted with a glass hardtop, just like #040, as pictures found by Wouter and posted in the #066 thread prove!

    XL9GB14J05Z363068 – Spyker C8 Double 12S

This is arguably the most extraordinary Double 12 of them all. The bodywork is quite different compared to that of a normal Double 12. It features the La Turbie nose section as well as the reworked double twin exhaust system. The rearwindow is different as well, it does not have the ventilation slots. The roof is solid metal and does not have the glasspanels. The body does not have the rivets. The Gunmetal exteriorcolor in combination with the Magnolia hide catches the eye.

This Double 12 is equiped with a state of the art audiosystem as well as an automatic gearbox.

This Double 12 also has a Chinese owner.

    link to the #068 thread

    XL9BA12G56Z363069 – Spyker C8 Double 12S

This particular Double 12 was build in may 2006 and stands out for it’s purple exterior color. It has the turned aluminium dashboard.

It was owned by a Dutch real estate millionaire, who had it registered in the Netherlands.
This Double 12 is now for sale at Van Vliet Personenauto’s B.V. The Dutch license plates are no longer on the car anymore and the license plate number is no longer registered.

    link to the #069 thread

    #XL9BA12G86Z363101 – Spyker C8 Double 12S RHD Black / Pharaoh

This C8 Double 12S was first displayed at the 27th Bangkok International Motor Show, 22 March 2006. It is unique - Yes I know: All Double 12’s are unique! - in a way that this is the only Double 12 with a right hand drive. It is one of five black Double 12’s, but this is the only black one without rivets on it’s bodywork. It has an automatic gearbox and the beautifull black Chronoswiss dials in the turned aluminium dashboard.

Since it made it’s public appearance at the end of march 2006, it is most likely produced in the first quarter of 2006. That makes this Double 12 the first to have the new headlights and the mirrors with integrated side indicators. Again the VIN number is unknown but it was definitely build after the Double 12 with VIN #069 and before the Double 12 with VIN #126.

This Double 12 is currently (February 2016) for sale at Reckless, Japan.

    link to the #101 thread

    XL9BA11G06Z363126 – Spyker C8 Double 12S

This Double 12 was completed in the first quarter of 2007. Just like Double 12 with VIN #034 it has a bi-color interior. On top of that, it has a bi-color exterior, which is unique to this Double 12, although the same paint scheme was used again later on two C8 Spyders (#177 and #210). The idea of the blue and white paint scheme was probably borrowed from the Maseati MC12, which is quite similar.

It has the Chronoswiss black dials on the aluminium turned dashboard.

Some sources claim that this Double 12 has a Super Charged engine. We don’t know if that’s true but we do know that this Double 12 originally had a non-Super Charged engine fitted by the factory.

The badges on the side are a bit different than on other Double 12’s. Normally it says “C8 Double 12” on non-Super Charged Double 12’s and “C8 Double 12 Super Charger” on Super Charged Double 12’s. On this particular Double 12 it says “C8 Double 12 S”.

This Double 12 was sold to Eastern Europe.

    link to the #126 thread

    XL9BA12G86Z363129 – Spyker C8 Double 12S

This particular Double 12 has the turned aluminium dashboard. It has the same building caracteristics as the before mentioned Double 12 with VIN #126. Pictures at the factory indicate that this Double 12 was nearly completed on may 31st 2007.

This Double 12 was not build to the specific wishes of a client, it was ordered and for sale at the official Spyker of Switzerland dealer: Speedy Garage but has found a German owner.

    link to the #129 thread

    XL9BA12G87Z363200 – Spyker C8 Double 12S

This particular Double 12 has the most extravagant color combination of all Double 12’s produced: Blue exterior over Purple interior. Although it might not be to everybody’s taste it is certainly striking…

This double 12 has the turned aluminium dashboard and is fitted with an automatic gearbox. Quite interesting to see that this Double12 has a reworked exhaustsystem with 4 exhaustpipes, first seen on the La Turbie prototype.

It’s high VIN number might come as a surprise. C8 Spyders with lower VIN numbers allready have the four vent upgraded airconditioning unit fitted where as this Double 12 still has the three vent airconditioningsystem. The owner most likely specifically wanted VIN #200... We believe that production of this Double 12 probably started in the second half of 2007 but was not completed untill late 2007.

This Double 12 has a Chinese owner.

    link to the #200 thread

#XL9BA12G27Z363208 – Spyker C8 Double 12S Black with Gold / Black with Magnolia

This Double 12 was spotted only a couple of times. The first time in march 2007 in a trailer and the top panel of the dashboard not yet attached, so I think we can assume that this Spyker was completed in march or april 2007. The car then, most likely, found a Czech owner, as the Czech plates on some of the other photo sets indicate.

    link to the #208 thread

    #??? – Spyker C8 Double 12S White / Ruby

This Double 12 was shown to the public for the first time during the Kuwait Motor Show, november 2007 and therefore it is most likely produced in 2007. Unfortunately the VIN number is unknown, but if we take the caracteristics of this Double 12 into account in combination with the date of it’s first public appearance, we think this one was build just before Double 12S with VIN #200.

The bodywork is smooth without the rivets, the side indicators are in the mirror and the side markers are present. Unique feature on this car is that they are all amber colored, normally the front ones are amber and the ones at the back are red. It has the turned aluminium dashboard.

This Double 12 is still in Kuwait. Rumour has it that this Double 12 is owned by a woman…

I never noticed that the roof of the Spyker C8 Double 12S with La Turbie looks does not have the glass panels. Its a shame......I prefer the standard glass roof.

A car magazine or website should publish this article including pictures of all the Double 12s...and generate some free publicity for Spykerowner.com. Anyway a nice thread Laviolette GT2R and Bucciali!

I do miss the Double12 R's in this list

And maybe it is a nice idea to have the 'core' information short overview. In that way you can see it at a glance. Now you have to scroll a lot.

More like the way the register is build up. Al the extra information can be put at the end?

              Updates

Today the following updates were made on the Double 12 thread:

              #129 Spyker C8 Double 12S

Date of completion altered, as photographs from a factory visit indicate that it was finished later than we initially thought.

#??? Spyker C8 Double 12S with La Turbie looks

VIN number 055 allocated as we now strongly believe that this Double 12 derived from the La Turbie prototype with the same VIN number.

It is indeed an automatic (look at the specs). This is #059, has to be. Now we also know this engine has 500 hp and 570 Nm. The kit costs 40.000 euro and there are 4 cars build with this compressor. And the engine comes from the Volkswagen Phaeton.
