    Benjamin Leuenberger is sharing the Speedy Racing Team Spyker with Andrea Chiesa, who drove for Speedy last year also. Quick driver, on par with Andrea Chiesa.
    I think that Speedy Racing Team could have the better line-up as a whole.
    But at the testday it will be all about that one fast laptime. In my opinion Peter Dumbreck is faster over one lap than any of the Speedy Racing Team drivers. On top of that it seems, looking at the free practice and qualifying results so far this year, that the Speedy Racing Team drivers struggle in finding the right set-up.

        Problems for the #85 car!

        Ralf Kellners: "The track is slippery through the Porsche curves."
        Kellners reported that the track was difficult and that the Spyker's Audi V8 engine was making ominous noises.

        Heart transplantation for Spyker #85

        #85 will receive engine from #94 car to allow #85 drivers to qualify; Kelleners will continue at the wheel.
        Kelleners has not taken part in the 24 hours for more than 3 years so he needs to put in his required laps.

        Also Spyker is in trouble, Ralf Kelleners (who’s become a father last night) not able to complete yet his ten laps after the engine broke down. At the moment the engine of the 94 Speedy Spyker is being transferred to the 85 car to enable ralf to complete his ride.
        Hmmm it looks like the #94 car is 'sacrificed' to get the #85 car running again. Maybe it was a good idea to bring some spare engines to the testday

          Update @16:00 (Planet Le Mans):

          The #85 Spyker went finally out on the track after the engine change to complete Kelleners’ 10 mandatory laps however the car went off apparently without major consequences.
          I think we can safely say that this isn't a lucky day for the Squadron! Let's hope that they have all the back luck today and not at the race!

              Some thougths about the testday

              Le Mans Testday

              First thing on every team's to-do list of the Le Mans testday is to make sure that all drivers will be qualified to race. Every driver that has not raced at Le Mans in the past three years has to do 10 mandatory laps to qualify as a Le Mans driver. If you can not, for whatever reason, do this 10 laps than you are not allowed to compete in the actual Le Mans 24 hour race.
              For Spyker this meant Ralf Kelleners in the #85 car and Benjamin Leuenberger in the #94 car had still to qualify, all other drivers had raced at Le Mans in the past three years.

              Unfortunately, the engine of the #85 car blew after only five laps... This meant Ralf Kelleners didn't do his 10 laps yet. After 14 laps for the #94 car, in which Benjamin Leuenberger was able to put in his mandatory laps, the engine was lifted from this car and put into the #85 car. This was done in order to get Ralf Kelleners qualified for the race.

              Apparantly there was no spare engine... This clearly indicates to me that the engine was developed further after Spa and that there was just enough time to put just two engines together. If it was the same engine as used at Spa there would have been at least one spare engine. I think the new or developed engine and the supporting systems around it are so different from the older engine that they are not interchangable anymore with the older engine, thereby making it useless bringing an older engine as a spare. The fact that it took a lot of time to get the engine swapped from one car to the other could indicate that the specs. of the two engines were not exactly the same therefore making it necessary to alter more things than only the engine.

              Although #85 only completed 27 laps in eight hours and #94 only 14, and the fact that there is still a lot of work to do, at least all the drivers are now qualified to take part in the Le Mans 24 hour race!

                Snoras Spyker Squadron testday report

                Mon 02 Jun 2008 SNORAS Spyker Squadron Official Le Mans test

                As per last Wednesday SNORAS Spyker Squadron exchanged their Zeewolde based workshop for their new home: two pit boxes, three trailers and an old land house inside the track form their base of operations for the upcoming 24 Hours of Le Mans in two weeks time.

                Before the team could jointly work with the drivers on the setup of cars they first had to prepare the pit boxes, built the catering- and paddock tents, attended the mandatory driver- and team meetings and guided their cars through the technical checks.

                The weather did not really help the built-up process and in particular on Saturday severe downpours caused flooding and small landslides around the track. On Sunday morning, the official test day, the weather looked promising although the track was still damp.

                Two out of the three drivers of the #85 C8 Laviolette were not present at breakfast on Sunday morning; Alexei Vasiliev and Ralf Kelleners. Alexei was racing in another race series and Ralf’s wife gave birth to a baby girl on Saturday night so he arrive late. Ralf stayed with his wife and got an okay from the race director to complete the official paperwork on Sunday morning. As it was three or more years ago that he, but also fellow driver in the #94 car, Benjamin Leuenberger, had driven at Le Mans both had to complete 10 laps to be eligible to compete in the race.

                Whilst Ralf was signing up with the ACO, Peter Dumbreck and Benjamin Leuenberger went out just after the nine o’clock mark. Benjamin went out on slicks while Peter started on intermediates but none of these tires were of any use for the rest of the day. It soon started raining and it never really stopped.

                At 11:20 the #85 car returned to the pit box with an engine failure. Due to the limited preparation time caused by the packed pre-season race agenda no spare engine was yet available. Ralf was also not allowed to complete his 10 laps in the other car so the decision was made to swap the engine over with the sister car. In record time, in less than an hour and half, the engine was transfered to the #85 car and Ralf eventually complied to the rules after completing his laps.

                Peter van Erp: Managing Director Spyker Squadron: “The value we got out of this official test day was fairly limited. The rain, the code reds - we have made 18 stops in 27 laps. All drivers fortunately completed their laps and we can now focus on the race week. Part of the team will go back to the Netherlands to work on the engines for qualifying and the race”.

                From June 9 the Le Mans race week starts with the ‘Pesage’ The race starts at 15:00 on Saturday the 14th of June.
