Qualifying is underway But the Spyker is in the pitbox at the moment, they are changing the gear ratio's. That will take up a lot of time.

But the qualification goes on until 24:00.

The car is on the box to check the gearbox.
Tom Coronel is nog on the track.

            1st Qualifying session

Spyker managed 13th in GT2 Class in the first qualifying session.

Jarek Janis started the first qualifying session and after some installation laps got down to his fastest lap-time of 4:10.462.

After about 20 minutes Spyker, as AX lover said earlier, changed the gearbox internals in order to adjust the gear ratios, probably to obtain a higher top-speed. This job did indeed take some time: Almost an hour was lost.

Then it was Tom Coronel's turn. He started where Jarek stopped, putting a 4:10.630 in, later bettering his personal best lap-time to 4:10.532. Pretty close to Jarek's quickest lap-time, which makes me wonder if the changed gear ratios really worked out as planned...

With only 15 minutes left Tom handed over to Jeroen Bleekemolen. Jeroen went out and went straight back in, not putting a fast lap-time in.

So again Jarek janis was the fastest Spyker driver, something I would not have thought. So well done Jarek!

We are 30 minutes in the second qualifying session. Jeroen is just out on a new set of tires.
Let's hope he can set a good time. Spyker is currently 6 seconds behind the GT2 leader.

1hr15 to go. Currently in pos 11. Very difficult to get a clean lap. A lot of traffic and gravel on the track.
Let's hope they can get a clean run tonight

The car is parked in the box. There was a slim chance to improve times due to traffic and gravel on the track.
So it looks like quali is over for Spyker. Still 20 minutes left.

                      2nd Qualifying session

Spyker improved to 11th position in the second qualifying session.

Jeroen Bleekemolen was in the car as the second qualifying started. Jeroen managed a lap-time of 4:10.534, putting him within a tenth of a second of the times set by Jarek Janis and Tom Coronel in the first qualifying session.

After about 15 minutes, Jeroen bettered his personal best to 4:09.360, thereby setting the fastest time for the Spyker so far, but after 30 minutes in the session the Spyker, with Jeroen still in the car, was fitted with fresh tyres and Jeroen went for it: 4:08.348 managing 11th in class.

As it was very hard to get a clean lap, the Snoras Spyker Squadron decided to cal it a day early, as it was unlikely that this time would be improved, and parked the car in the pitbox.

Jeroen Bleekemolen: "Ons grote voordeel is..."

SNORAS SPYKER SQUADRON LE MANS 24 QUALIFYING REPORT

                            Le Mans, 12 June
The Dutch SNORAS Spyker Squadron will start from an eleventh position in Saturday’s Le Mans 24 Hours. The Spyker C8 Laviolette GT2R will be driven by Spyker regulars Jarek Janis (CZE) and Tom Coronel (NLD). 2008 LMP2 class winner Jeroen Bleekemolen (NLD) will accompany the driver pair.

The organisation decided earlier to skip the official test weekend and changed the two two-hour Wednesday qualifying sessions into a single six-hour free practice session. Spyker Squadron used their first hour on the French non-permanent track to run-in their gearbox. After an hour with a maximum of sixty percent throttle Jarek did five laps on race speed. Although it had been raining the whole day Jarek had a small window of dryer conditions as was able to set the third quickest time in GT2. When Tom went out it started raining again. He tested the intermediate- and wet tires and completed his laps.

The Dutch team continued its quest for a better time and tried to re-find top speed which is lower compared to recent years due a change in the regulations. Jeroen got in the car and tested a variation of splitters, wings and ducts to reclaim overall speed. Later in the six hour session the team stopped the car to analyse the data and wait for the 22:00 signal. After ten o’clock the drivers all completed their mandatory night laps to be eligible to compete in the race. After 43 laps and having set the 4th quickest time in the ‘night’ practice the team decided to stop earlier than planned because of the rain - the weather forecast for the race is dry, warm and sunny.

The night before qualifying was used to swap the engine for the race engine. The first two hours of the Thursday qualifying session were used to let Tom and Jarek qualify for the race. The handling of the car was great but the team decided to call in the car to change the gearbox ratio’s to again see if more top-speed could be found.

When Jeroen went out on fresh tires, 15 minutes before the end of the first two-hour qualifying session, to find a quicker time he had to return to the box with a problem with his right front tire. After a 45 minute break the second session started. Jeroen completed three laps on soft tires and three on mediums and set the eleventh quickest time in a field of 17 GT2 cars.

Peter van Erp: “We are expecting good weather this weekend for the race and in these conditions our drivers can all do a 4:09 easily without pushing the car to its limits. We decided to stop earlier in qualifying - We can go a lot quicker but there was so much traffic and the track was very dirty that we decided to call it the day and save the car for the race”.

Jeroen Bleekemolen will start the race for SNORAS Spyker Squadron tomorrow.

Eurosport will broadcast the race live one of their channels. For more Spyker Squadron updates do not forget to drop by our VIMEO and TWITTER pages which we will be updating regularly.
