  • Steve McQueen's LeMans Porsche

I sent the below e-mail to my friend Stephan concerning Steve McQueen's 911 LeMans Porsche and thought you all might enjoy the story. Stephan's e-mail response to me follows and Judge Jesse Rodriguez is cited in the document that Stephan was so great to find:

We were both kids. He was from Cuba, as were many of the guys I "busted" tires with. We both graduated from college in 1971. I went to work at Hughes Aircraft Company and he continued his education and graduated from law school and became a court judge here in the Los Angeles area.

He really liked the car but sold it, perhaps to help pay for his son's education. We were both pressed for time, but I thought he said it was one that Steve drove at LeMans. However, I don't think it could be the 917 in the movie. Perhaps it was this one. Is there any way to verify this? My friends name is Jesse Rodriguez.

    Hi Scott,

    Nice quest!

    Great history this car has.

Your friend bought the car in April 2005: http://www.rmauctions.com/lots/lot.cfm?lot_id=1057342

Not sure what he got for it but probably not the amount whta the new owner got for it when auctioned and sold for $1,375,000.00

    Best wishes,

    Stephan

Talking about "Out of this world"....someday, I'll write about my nephew, Steven Weber, and his relationship with the William Randolph Hearst family. I must say, this crazy stuff can only happen in California!
