        Can't find anything about the Ferrari F430 GT though...

          A new sound emerges from the Spyker pit box

          As the final preparations ahead of the first free practice session of the weekend for the Le Mans Series where underway at Spa-Francorchamps, there was an interesting sound coming from the pit box where both Spyker C8 Laviolette GT2R cars are this weekend. Instead of the usual deep rumble from the engines a complete different sound emerged from the back of one of the cars.

          When the cars left the pit lane on their first lap around the Belgian circuit it became clear that the long awaited new engine had been installed by the Dutch squad in the number 85 SNORAS Spyker Squadron Spyker C8 Laviolette GT2R and the Spa-Francorchamps round will be the first race for the engine before the team heads to Le Mans for the annual 24 Hours of Le Mans.

          The impact of the new engine will probably not be known after this session, as it is only the first test. More about this development later…

          We hope to have a comparison of both the new and the ‘old’ Spyker engine online soon, as the number 94 Speedy Racing entry is still fitted with the old engine.

            This makes me very curious. It is still a V8, it has more cubic inches, a slightly lower power output.. This leads one to suspect a more American-ish sound.

            The article above however doesn't describe the new sound but it does say it differs from the old, low rumbling noise. From this I for one conclude that the new sound aught to be higher in pitch than the old. How can this be given the fact that the engine is larger and slightly more lazy?

            Very interesting...

              Peter Dumbreck did the shakedown today. One of his points of focus was to find what the best time to change the gears is with the new engine. The new engine also means the Spyker C8 Laviolette GT2R has more power and more torque, which resulted in the car already being quicker than the number 94. The new engine has a completely new lay-out and a new crankshaft.

              For now the team will keep testing as several components will have to be optimized for the new engine.

              Now that we know it has a higher power output, the higher pitched sound makes more sense .

                Why is the new engine larger? If the engines were allowed to be larger last year, they would have driven with an engine as big as the regulations would allow right? So have the rules changed and if so, why? They also mention that the new engine has an all-new layout. What is meant by this? It is still an Audi v8 in essence, so what is new about it in terms of layout?

                I hope the engine is a revver! more cubic inches plus more revs equals a great piece of kit!

                  The engine is larger because they needed more horse power to get a better topspeed. There is a formula between engine displacement, air-intake-restrictors and total car weight. In short: A bigger engine gets a smaller air-intake-restrictor or / and a higher minimal total car weight. So it's not necessarily better to enlarge the engine to the maximum capacity allowed.                   Also read Article 5 (page 9 onwards) for more rules concerning the motor, from this article I learned that the basic things of the race motor must be the same as the production motor. Unless Spyker got some dispensation, it's not very likely that the layout is entirely new...
